Description - Erect or prostrate herbs. Leaves elliptic-ovate, sinuate-toothed. Flowers yellow with purple spots at base, solitary, axillary. Berry globose, enclosed in accrescent calyx
Chemical_Constituents- Plant contains steroidal lactones physalindicanols, withanolide withaminimin. Stems, leaves and roots contain steroid physalin D. Leaves, stem and immature fruits contain alkaloids. Leaves contain epoxyphysalin B, withaphysalins A-C, physalin B.
Uses - Fruits and leaves used as tonic, diuretic, purgative.
