Botanical name - Ocimum basilicum
Description -
Ocimum basilicum is an erect, aromatic, smooth with nearly glabrous branching herb and green or purplish coloured. Simple, opposite leaves entire or toothed, glabrous on both sides. White flowers in simple racemes often thyrsoid. Fruits ellipsoid nutlets black and pitted.

Uses -
Plant stomachic, alexipharmic, antipyretic, diaphoretic, expectorant, carminative, stimulant and anthelmintic. Leaf juice given in ringworms; seeds demulcent, stimulant, diaphoretic, diuretic, used in piles.
