Botanical name - Garcinia morella
Description - Small to medium-size trees. Leaves elliptic-oblong. Male flowers pinkish-white. sessile, in fascicles on old wood. Female flowers axillary, solitary, subsessile. Berry globose, smooth.
Chemical_Constituents- Leaves, flowers, fruits, stem contain resin gamboge. Seeds contain a fat. Plant contains morellins, morellinol, dihydromorelloflavone, morello flavone glucoside. Seed coat contains pigment morellin.
Uses - Resin - hydrogogue, cathartic, used in dropsical affections, obstinate constipation and cerebral congestion when rapid lowering of blood pressure is desired.
