Description -
Phytography: Herb, 1-1.3 m high; leaf simple, spiral, 30-60 cm by 7.5-10.0 cm, oblong-lanceolate, green, glabrous; spikes globose, very dense, short peduncled; bracts red; flowers 2.5 cm, yellowish white; capsules 2.5 cm, globose, red or brown
Chemical_Constituents-
Fruits : volatile oil containing a terpenoid; Seeds : chalcor cardamonin, flavones, alpinetin, petunidin-3,5-diglycoside, leucocyanidinglucosid subulin and essential oil.
Uses -
Traditional use : UNANI : Constituent of 'Heel-kalan', ex-hilarant for vital spirit, benefi-cial in fainting, insanity, nausea and gas. Modern use : BOH (50%) extract of rhizome and roots : hypoglycaemic; Essential oil from seeds : active against growth of keratinophilic fungi; Seeds : used as fragrant adjuncts to other stimulants, bitter and purgative; Seed-oil: aromatic and used as stimulant, stomachic and applied to eyelids to allay inflammation. .
