Botanical name - Alocasia indica
Description -
Phytography: Tall (up to 2.7 m) aroid with succulent (10-20 cm) underground rootstock; leaves alternate, petiolate, large (up to 1 m), deeply sagittately cordate, tip deflexed, midrib thick; spadix large (20-54 cm), peduncle short, spathe pale yellow-green.

Rootstock: yields a pure white starch.

Traditional use : This plant has been mentioned in UPAVARHANA SAMHITA; CHARAKA SAMHITA : useful to treat digestive disorders; SHUSHRUTASAMHITA : medicinal plant; AYURVEDA : digestive, diuretic, good for piles; Extract of petiole: removes puss from ear; Ash of rhizome: cures buccal ulcer. Modern use : Flour obtained is a light nutritious food, suitable for invalid; Leaf-juice: astringent; Rhizome : said to act as a mild laxative and diuretic, considered useful in anasarca and piles.
