Botanical name - Abelmoschus moschatus
Description -
Annual, herbaceous, 60 cm to 1 m high, hispid; leaves usually palmately 5- to 7-lobed, coarsely toothed, acuminate, stipulate; flowers yellow with crimson centre, 10 cm in diameter; capsules 2.5-7.5 cm; fulvous hairy, oblong lanceolate, acute; seeds subreniform, blacking with a few raised striae.
Chemical_Constituents-
Leaves contain beta-sitosterol and its glucoside, myrecetin and its glucoside. Dry fruit husk contains beta-sitosterol. Seeds contain volatile oil known as Musk seed oil or Ambrette seed oil. Oil mainly consists of a sesquiterpene alcohol consisting of farnesol, a ketone ambrettelide, a lactone of ambrettolic acid.
Uses -
Seed musk used as stimulant.
