    Botanical name - Streblus asper

    Description - Large shrubs or small crooked trees; bark light grey, rough, laticiferous. Leaves elliptic-obovate, denticulate. Flowers unisexual, male in capitate clusters, yellowish-green. Female solitary or 2 to 4 together. Dnipe globose, yellowish when ripe, succulent

    Chemical Constituents- Plant contains triterpenoids - friedelin, epifriedelinol, taraxasteryl acetate. Root bark contains cardiac glycoside vijaloside, cardenolide, kamaloside, asperoside, indroside, lucknoside, glycosides G, G and H, cannodimethoside, strophalloside, glucogitodimethoside, strophanolloside, glucokamaloside, sarmethoside and glucostrebloside.     Use - Leaves used as a galactogogue; their poultice applied to swellings and buboes. Roots given in dysentery. Decoction of bark used in fevers, diarrhoea and dysentery. Latex astringent and antiseptic, applied to sore heals, chapped hands and glandular swellings; also applied to temples as a sedative in neuralgia. Seeds used in epistaxis, piles and diarrhoea; externally, paste applied to leucoderma.
