Description -
Medium-sized tree. Leaves pinnate; leaflets linear-oblong, glabrous. Flowers white, pink or crimson, in 2 to 4-flowered racemes. Pods pendulous septate.
Chemical Constituents-
Leaves contain saponin, oleanolic acid, galactose, rhamnose and glucuronic acid. Seeds contain saponin, kaempferol diglucoside, leucocyanidin and cyanidin-3-glucoside.
Use -
Juice of roots with honey given as an expectorant. Bark tonic and febrifuge; decoction taken in small doses in diarrhoea and dysentery. Powdered bark applied to scabies; also used in the ulceration of tongue and alimentary canal. Flower juice dropped in eyes to improve vision. Seeds emmenagogue.
