    Botanical name - Alangium salvifolium

    Description - Small trees or shrubs with spinescent branches and pale brown bark. Flowers in fascicles, white. Berry fleshy.

    Chemical Constituents- Root contains alkaloids cephaeline, tubulosine, isotubulosine, psychotrine and alangiside. Root bark yields alkaloids alangine A and B, alangicine d-methylpsychotrine, marckine, marckidine, lamarckinine, psychotrine, tubulosine isotubulosine, cephaeline, emetine and protoemetinol and alangiosterol. Un-Saponifiable matter contains stigmasterol and Beta-sitosterol. Fruit yields alkaloid cephaeline, N-methyl- cephaeline, deoxytubulosine and alangiside. Seeds contain alkaloids alangimarine alamanine, alangimaridine, emetine, cephaeline psychotrine, N-methylcephaeline and alangimide. Seed kernel contains acids, Beta-sitosterol and alamarckine. Stem bark contain alkaloids isoalamarine, cephaeline, psychotrine, tubulosine, demethyl psychotrine demethyl cenhaeline. Beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol. Leaves contain alkaloids alangimarckine, ankorine, deoxytubulosine alangiside, sterols and 3 triteipenoids. From Impcops- Root and seed contain number of alkaloids like alangine, lamarckine, akoline, akharkantine, alanginine, and alpha and beta alangium.

    Use - The fruits with seeds and the roots are used in medicine The drug is purgative and anthelmintic and useful in skin disease and rheumatic pains Root bark used in cutaneous troubles; astringent, anthelmintic, purgative, emetic and diaphoretic. Also used in biliousness and colic. Leaves hypoglycemic. Fruits acidic and astringent, laxative, tonic. Seeds used in haemorrhages
